I usually run 18 to 20 watts carrier and keep the indicated peak
indicated power out a bit under 100 watts with modulation. The end
effect is somewhat above 100% on positive peaks and no negative peak
clipping. With EDSP off my mic gain with a MD-100 is about 9 o'clock.
Folks say it sounds very nice in scenarios where "wide band" AM is
appropriate, i.e. 75 meter morning nets, NOT crowded evening times when
every kc seems occupied!

As noted in a previous posting, the AM mode carrier output WILL vary
upwards from an intial cold start setting over the first 30 minutes or
so of operation.

There should be little or no ALC indicated on voice peaks unless you are
getting close to the 100 watt peak output point. If you have an average
reading power meter and it deflects downward on voice peaks, back off on
the mic gain.

With EDSP-tx on, my mic gain needs to be increased a bit beyond 9
o'clock to maintin the same average to peak ratio. I find the same on
SSB mode. I believe there is an internal adjustment that can be
utilized to equalize the af gain between the EDSP on and off settings,
but I forgot to look for it the last time I had the MP apart.
