[1000mp] Key Clicks Solution?

Hi Bill,

Indeed, you are, of course, correct that turning the knob of the Run VFO
will change your transmit frequency. I don't turn the knob of the Run
VFO - in fact I hit the lock button so accidentally hitting the knob
won't QSY me.

For CW I use the 500 Hz Collins mech filter in the Sub Rx, run on the
Sub and tune for mults with the Main. If someone calls me off
frequency, as long as they're not too far off, it's no big deal. If I
think I hear someone way off freq I can hit the Nor filter button and
there he is.

For SSB it's the same except that I use the Nor filter on the Sub Rx.
It is, however, much more of a problem if someone calls me way off
freq. To deal with this I have programmed a few F keys in TRLog to do
the following:

Alt-F2 - Turns off Dual mode, makes sure Split mode is on, and puts the
Main VFO on the run freq. You can now tune in an off-freq responder
using whatever filters, DSP, etc. that you wish. When you transmit
you're still using the Sub VFO.

Alt-F1 - Turns on Dual mode, makes sure Split mode is on, and puts the
Main VFO back to wherever it was when you hit Alt-F2. Sub VFO is still
on the Run frequency.

Alt-F3 - Turns off Dual mode and Split mode. Now if you transmit you
are transmitting on the A VFO frequency, presumably to answer a mult's
CQ. To go back to running, hit Alt-F1.

I agree with you about the Sub Rx filtering. I find that when someone
answers my CW CQ and isn't quite strong that I can never get the call
the first time. I obviously need more practice. In the meantime, I
bought a 250 Hz Inrad to replace the 500 in the Sub Rx in the hopes of
reducing the racket in my Run ear. The 500 will move to the Main.

I'm not saying that this is the best way to deal with the situation.
However, it is a way. Works FB with TR. Don't know if other logging
programs allow you to send rig commands with the Function keys so can't
comment on that.

I call this mode of operation SO1.5R. One of these days I'll get around
to publishing the details. There always seems to be something more
pressing, like get an inverted L up so I can get on 160.

Hope this was of some interest.
