Jim, whichever VFO you assign TX to cannot then be tuned in RX
without using CLAR...unless you want your TX frequency jumping around
as you answer callers on your run frequency. As soon as you lock
your TX to either Main or Sub VFO, you then can no longer use the
large knobs to tune, and must use the little CLAR knob. Another reason
not to run with the Sub VFO is that the filtering is not nearly as
good, and I normally want the best filtering for my run frequency.

The way I really preferred to run with my MP was to put TX on
the Sub VFO, lock it there, and then use the large Main VFO knob to
RX on my run frequency. The problem comes about when you try to
use both large knobs for RX (Main for run, Sub for S&P). I never found
a way to do that in the MP without using CLAR. If you have, I'm all
ears and stand corrected. I have big hands and simply hate using
the little CLAR knob when that big Main knob is sitting there unused.

This would be such a simple firmware change, I'm amazed Yaesu
never considered it for the later Mark V versions...of course they
didn't fix their clicks or IF hiss in those either.
