I'd get at least one 2.4 ssb filter and one 500 kcs cw filter before I
bought the roofing filter. I do have the roofing filter here but it is not
installed yet. I could not imagine contesting with out at least one of
those filters on each mode and I have 2 of each. Fred Laun K3ZO
can do that but about 1 hour in the chair is about all i could stand with
filters in a contest.

Subject: [1000mp] Roofing Filters
Guys... Like most of you, I have had my Mark V for several months. My
contesting is mainly CQWW and ARRL DX contest, both modes. Occasionally
few other contest of interest.
My rig is stock, with no filters. Several of my contest club friends have
told me that the "roofing filter" is a must in this rig for contesting????
My previous rig of many years was the Icom 756 PRO with all the dsp goodies.
I found the cw audio to be almost robotic in sound. Was not totally
pleasing, especially after hours of contesting. But all in all, it was a
great rig.
I see in the mailing list that many have the same question about the roofing
filter as I do, and that is
"will it really make that much difference?" If so, how much does it
cost and where do I get it? And most of all, is it idiot proof for
installation??
Thanks to all
JON k8ly
