There are a lot of people who prefer the more analoge sounding receivers.
After a period of 2-1/2 years I sold the 756ProII and bought a IC-775DSP
with analoge crystal filters. That's the sound I like! It's about the same
the sound of the FT-1000D which I have in use.
The sound of my Mark-V Field comes very close to the 775DSP and 1000D.
However the Mark-V Field still has some background IF-hiss which is hard to
get rid off. The receiver of the Mark-V Field is not as "quiet" as the
775DSP and 1000D. Before the Field I had the 1000MP and Mark-V 200 and they
all had the same. Yes, I did install the Inrad IF-mod in the 1000MP and
Mark-V 200. Now I use the Inrad Roofing Filter into the Field, which is a
very good option.
For me the 'sound of the receiver' is the most important part of a
transceiver. All these features like IF-filters, multifunctional display,
etcetera are very nice at the first look, but when the receiver sounds like
a robot these features just faint away...
I cannot give an opinion on the sound of the 756ProIII, 7800 and FT-DX9000
series (yet).

time (contests) gives me an raging headache.
