[1000mp] Why??

Page 1-2 of the FT-1000MP service manual:

TCXO-4 <+- 2.0 PPM (0 - +50 C)
TCXO-6 <+- 0.5 PPM (0 - +50 C)

I think where the confusion lies is the way Yaesu states the stability
in your MPMKv user & service manual. 0.5 PPM (parts per million) after
1 min at 25 C and 0.25 PPM after 1 min at 25 C with TCXO-6.

The TCXO-4 and -6 are spec at 2.0 and 0.5 at 50 degree C temp range but
hold the .5 and .25 within 25 degree C temp range.

If you remember the FT-1000 came with a 2.0 PPM TCXO and the FT-1000D
came with a 0.5 PPM TCXO. Icom specs their CR-282 which is .5 PPM at
-30 to + 60 degrees C which is a tighter spec than the either of the
Yaesu TCXOs.

Also when adjusting for frequency accuracy I always try to adjust with
the highest frequency WWV station, usually 15 Mhz and I use the 600 hz
sidetone with the MP main receiver in USB or LSB and the sub VFO on
AM. I've only adjusted the MKV once and I have the 2.0 PPM standard
TCXO. The sidetone always works for me. Try it.

One more thing, I drilled a very small hole in the side of my MKV so
that I can adjust the TCXO without taking the cover off. I have a
small plastic plug that goes in the hole. I wish Yaesu would have
done that at the factory. The Icom 775 has a fine adjustment on the
side of the radio accessible without removing the covers.

Anyway have fun.
