I had same problem and got no response from list. Below are the messages as
well as the factory fix. It was not a complex troubleshooting issue,
though. Two or three power supply measurements was all they did and replace
the 8V regulator Ic. See below.......

Mine did this a couple of years ago. The flashing display indicates that the
phase locked loop is not locked which sent me off on several wild goose
chases. I sent it back and they listed:
Repair of VCO lock. Replaced 8V regulator IC. $1.36 for part and $82.50
for
repair plus $18.50 for shipping. It was not a Yaesu repair station, but they
no longer do repairs. Let me know how you make out with your repair.
Obviously measure the input and output of the 8V regulator to see if it is
working if you plan to do the work yourself.

Help,
My wonderfull MP of a couple of years old just bit the
dust. Never had a problem with it before & it has no
inrad mods or anything done.. Worked beautifully until
today.. I normally leave it on all the time.. Came home
from work & the digits on the main dial are all blinking
similar to the microwave when the current goes off.. But
nothing unusual had happened here today.. Also there is
no receive audio at all. Not from speakers or from any
earphone jack.. Just nothing.. And no transmit either..
Geez.. Digits on the sub dial don't flash but appear ok..
VFO goes up & down freq ok & changes bands ok but
the main dial just keeps flashing all the time.. I tried all the
resets per the manual & even tried unplugging the radio for
an hr & than retried the resets but just have the same thing..
It almost seems like a PLL came unlocked or something..
Has anyone else experienced this condition & what did it
take to repair it.. Might save my radio a trip to Yaesu if
anyone had this happen & was able to find the cause.. I
will be checking my e-mail on Thursday before I give Yaesu
a call.. Thanks for any help..

I coulda swore I saw a similar problem posted recently, but a check (albeit
quick) of the archives did not turn up what I was looking for.
I was in the shack this morning doing other things when the VFO-A display
started blinking the frequency readout. At the time I had the AF gain all
the way down, but when I turned it up there was nothing. Keypad tactile beep
response was gone as well. No audio, no signal strength being indicated on
S-meter. Also no transmit. The rig seems to change frequency/bands OK, but
the display just keeps on blinking. VFO-B also produces no output on receive
or transmit, but does not blink.
I ultimately tried the total CPU reset as a shot in the dark, but no joy.
This is a relatively early s/n original MP. Any ideas what the problem is?
