[1000mp] MP with Flashing VFO-A, no Rcve, no Xmit... And no joy!

Yup. Yaesu agrees. The tech described this as "the second worst thing that
can go wrong" with this radio. He indicated 2 hrs minimum tech time at
$70/hr "if I'm lucky", but also said they might have to do a whole lot of
chasing before they found the problem. 

In the meantime guess I'll have to dust off the old TS930 and solder up some
cabling to the amp. Missed ZS8MI on 10 m this morning as a result of all of
this. He was coming in quite nicely on the 930, but it was not set up for
xmit at the time.

It's probably a bit more serious than the typiical display problem. A friend
of mine recently had a new Mark 5 Field with the flashing vfo  A and no
sound. It turned out to be a PLL problem. Most likely that's what this is
also.

If you call yaesu i would bet they are going to tell you the same thing
