No problems dealing with Inrad direct from over here, and the kits may
also be in stock at GW3YDX.

The big difference is that the W8JI mod has *adjustable* components, so
you can get it right for your individual transceiver. The Inrad mod is a
good attempt at a "one size fits all" solution; but as Earl has
testified, this is not quite so successful in reducing the clicks.

In addition to Yaesu's basic design problem that affects all models of
FT-1000, there do seem to be genuine variations in click levels between
individual transceivers. In other words, the click levels seem to depend
in some subtle way on small variations in component tolerances (possibly
the gate threshold levels in the IF MOSFETs?). Whatever... but for the
very best results, it does seem to be necessary to tweak each
transceiver individually.

Another important point is that there are actually *two* click problems.
There's a problem on key-down, and a *separate* problem on key-up.
You'll never notice this if you blast away with a bug-key when trying to
adjust the W8JI pots... so do it slowly with a hand-key, and tweak the
two pots for the best balance between key-down clicks and key-up clicks.
