I used a program called Spectrogram to do this, free eval. version.  Great tool for seeing exactly what all of your knobs do.  Run the software under your typical operating conditions, look at the screen to see where your deficiencies are, then go visit the INRAD site (not affiliated).

I found it a real help when I was tying to make both my MP and MKV "sound" alike for 2 radio contesting.
