I am one of those who has experienced the partial dropout/reduction in
signal with the MP. I first noted it in 1999 while operating from 3B9R. The
factory tech was unable to reproduce the problem , despite detailed
instructions how to do so, but replaced a bunch of parts anyway. The problem
seemed abated, but returned last year, and is still present. In fact, it was
a real PITA this weekend during CQP. Brief discussions with and emails to
Skip Margelli have resulted in absolutely nothing.
Ironically, I think you are lucky. With the problem no longer intermittent,
it should be easy to find. Please let me know what is found.

Subject: [1000mp] MP Rcvr lost its zip
I have noticed of late that there appears to be some kind of intermittent
problem with my MP (purchased new in 1999). The problem has grown
progressively worse with time and it doesn't seem to be intermittent
anymore. The MP is not dead but signals and noise have dropped considerably
on all bands.
I looked back through the archives and noticed that a couple of similar
problems have cropped up with others. Apparently the wire leading from the
coax connector to a small board has caused a problem and the other report
was a bad relay.
I noticed that my case isn't quite the same as the others mentioned. I get
the same effect using BOTH Rcvr antenna inputs (a & b), but apparently the
sub-RCVR is NOT effected. Lots of signal using the sub-RCVR.
I plan to open it up tomorrow and check it out. Any suggestions before I
start?
