This reminds me about how Practical Exams were given at military Electronics Technician School, whereby a Prefaulted Module is installed in the equipment and then the student is told to troubleshoot. In some cases, PFMs were not available. I recall the buss wire "short" connected from final PA tube grid to chassis ground. The student went in with an O'scope probe that was connected to the "short". He knew
something was wrong, for sure, but did not realize/see that the probe was "connected" to the problem !
I would consider MFJ products very suitable PFMs.
