I have an MFJ-434 voice keyer I use with a Mark-V Field. Version 2A of =
the manual was supplied with the keyer; its about a year old.
The keyer has a number of jumpers on the microphone input and output =
wiring to allow its use with virtually any radio. I first tried the =
default jumper settings but the radio immediately started scanning up in =
frequency; it sounds like this was the problem the original poster =
attributed to the shuttle-jog. =20
The manual does have a section "Special Note About Yaesu radios" and =
goes on to give jumper settings for rigs where pin 2 is +5V and pin 5 is =
ground. (The manual mentions the FT-847, but this also applies to the =
Mark-V as Bill, KE5OG pointed out.) Just set the jumpers according to =
the picture given for the FT-847, and the keyer will work fine with the =
Mark-V.
As an aside for new MFJ-434 purchases... When I first purchased the =
MFJ-434, I tried it on my Kenwood 930 and it didn't work at all. It =
took some digging, but I found they had wired the microphone connectors =
incorrectly. They had pins 3 and 8 reversed on both the jack and plug; =
so watch out for that too. I always consider MFJ products to be a =
partially assembled kit of parts and plan on doing some rework.
