[1000mp] any yaesu help out there?

First of all forgive this is not the right reflector for this question but
I just left a ham friends shack, he is using a FT980 that is starting to
have a problem. When first powered up LSB mode only has a awful lot of
warble on the RX audio after about a 10 min or so warm up it starts sounding
normal. I also noticed a pronounced buzz in the unit which I am thinking is
coming from the display board. Any of you Yaesu guru's ever run into this or
is there a noted fix on this rig. I told him best thing to do is trade er in
for a new mark 5 or field.
