Carl and the group:

Just tried the number as I was hoping they had not changed it yet again.
The number is in service, they were having technical problems earlier
with their system. If you have problems with the extension, just punch
"0" and number sign and let the operator get you through.

73 to all

Subject: [1000mp] Yaesu Tech Support

Dear Karl and the group --

Interestingly, this "new" tech support number greets me with "no longer
in service..." It's the same number posted on the VERTEX/YAESU web site.
I tried it 3 times. Hmmmmmm...

I have sent eMail to them every day since March 20, with no response.
Hmmmmmm...

These were sent to:
[email protected] , [email protected] , and
[email protected] so I think I've covered all bases.

I invite you to read the text of the email, and tell me if I/we deserve
better response than this. Or have I completely missed something here?
Note particularly the date of installation and the date of failure.
Hmmmmmm...

Thinking of a new Yaesu purchase? Hmmmmmm...

Sorry for the long post/rant/rave.

Yaesu Quadra Power Supply Failure
VP-1000 Power Supply Serial Number 3C510004
Purchased February 28, 2003
Installed March 3, 2003
Failed March 19, 2003

Conditions:
1. The VP-1000 had been on and the VL-1000 off. I turned on the
FT-1000MP, and noticed that the antenna would not connect, meaning that
the ANT 1 relay in the amplifier was not energized (RL7001). This
probably meant that the VP-1000 was not working.

2. At the time of failure, the VL-1000 amplifier and FT-1000MP
transceiver were off. I then tried turning on both FT-1000MP and VL-1000
amplifier, amplifier does not come on.

3. On the previous day, the amplifier had been working properly. Only
used once, on 10 meter SSB for 10-minute QSO. Amplifier output power was
never more than 500 watts, peak or average.

4. Up to this point, when amplifier was off, power supply fans and
amplifier relays would occasionally cycle briefly. That is, the power
supply was always on.

5. AC Input was 120 Volts AC 60 Hz. AC Input tested and found good. AC
circuit breaker for that outlet was cycled and found to be good. AC
input to VP-1000 was never more than 120 Volts AC. Not connected to 220
Volts AC.

6. Another AC outlet with known good source of 120 Volts AC was tried.
Did not help.

7. Main Circuit Breaker on rear panel of VP-1000 was On. Cycling it off,
then on did not help. Pressing the red Push to Trip button within the
circuit breaker caused it to trip. It was then turned back on. Did not
help.

8. Front panel power switch of VP-1000 was On. Cycling it off, then on,
did not help.

9. DC power cable and Control cable from VP-1000 to amplifier were
removed, then reconnected. Did not help.

10. The REMOTE switch on the rear of the amplifier was off. Turning it
both on and off, with the transceiver both on and off, did not help.

On the VL-1000 amplifier: ALC, Band Data 1, and automatic tune-up cables
are attached to FT-1000MP. The automatic tune-up cable was modified for
FT-1000MP, per the VL-1000 manual. ALC calibration was performed.
Antenna matching with the internal tuner was performed. Resulting SWR
was always 1.2 or less. Exciter power was never above 80 watts. 10/12
meter band enabling was performed.

I am capable of performing service at this end, if you have anything to
suggest.

Yaesu changed their tech support number. Thought I would forward for
anyone who may not have it.
