The ARRL Handbook or Antenna Book both have good info on "bead"  baluns (AKA W2DU baluns), including the types of beads and the number to use. It is important to use the right ferrite material.  The typical snap-around ferrites are the wrong mix for HF frequencies and provide very little choking or atennuation in the HF.
