Reminds me of the time I brought my MP over to a friends house to compare it
against an MP Mark V. My friend had bought it used and the previous owner had
installed the INRAD mod and went into menu 9 and brought the gain higher
instead of down, I suppose he thought that the fact that he saw an S-5 signal
reach an S-9 that the increased gain from menu 9 was a good thing.
When I first did the comparison I thought the MP was much better then the
Mark V with its noisy receiver, but after some review of the menus it became
clear the menus had been optimized by a rookie.
The MP is a powerful radio and can be a great performer if in the right
hands, if the menus are screwed up my old Heathkit SB-101 has a better receiver.
For some people a simple radio is better and thats okay.
Cheers to a wonderful receiver,
Douglas
PS I have given many 5-0 reports with my 10 element Log Periodic and QRO
HF-2500DX amplifier, with the guy on the other end running a 100 watts and a
dipole. like listening for the little guys.
