Tom, there is a major difference or two between roofing filters and
conventional IF filters in where they are located in the circuitry and their
characteristics.

Changing the present probably fairly wide - 15 kHz or so - roofing filter(s)
might be a major undertaking. It is not just a matter of plugging in a
narrow conventional IF filter.
