[1000mp] Heil Headsets and MP

Glenn,

I have both the original and the Plus!, as well as the HM-10 dual-element
microphone on the Heil desk-mounted boom.  I prefer the Pro-Set Plus!.  It's
has a more comfortable headband, and I like being able to select the HC-4 or
the 5.  The 5 is preferred by those who know my voice, though either can be
optimized with the MARK-V.  The various Yaesu adjustments make a huge
difference in the sound, so experiment with someone who knows your voice and
how you want to sound (DX punch, etc.)   The cloth covers are nice too.

I currently have these settings:

MIC         9.5
PROC       11.0
Menu 4.4   Off
Menu 5-9   6.0
Menu 7-7   100-300
Menu 8-9   -0.080 for all 4 TX

I've tried other microphones with my original MP and now the MARK-V,
including the Yaesu desk mic, which sounds really good but takes up desk
space and isn't the right height.

The Plus! has a handy switch for the headphones that really works.  In one
position, the sounds seems to come from the middle of your head (really),
and the other it comes from each ear.  The first is better for normal
operation.  I use the second one for listening to the subreceiver in split
(CW) pileups.  (BTW, the microphone is usually flipped up, as I use the
headset more for CW and RTTY.)

If you were here in hot Arizona instead of in the UK, I'd make you a deal on
my old Pro-Set (not Plus), which has an HC-4!

I use the proset with only the DX insert. And it works great for both Dxing
and Rag chewing.

Thinking of purchasing a Heil proset plus headset for the MP, anyone any
experience of sound quality or other problems compared to using the the MD
100 Desk mic.

One comment already was forget about the Plus with the two inserts and go
for the proset with the DX insert only and save the $50.

Any comments ??
