Peter,
Ron is "right on" but...... having limited computer knowledge here is a
little decode for you.
If you go to compusa and ask for the 9 pin cable, on the shelf you will
likely find
a PC to PC cable. I bought one and nowhere did it say it was a NULL modem
cable on the box. I knew I didn't want a null cable and assumed that the
lack of the word null meant it was NOT a null cable. WRONG !!!!! if the
box says pc to pc it IS a NULL modem cable.
What you need is called a PC to "DEVICE" cable, 3 of the 4 people I spoke
with at compusa did not know the difference. we did get out their catalog,
and they
said they could order one for me.
Compusa didn't even have one. Called radio shack and
1. this store manager knew what I was talking about
2. he had one cheaper than the belkin cable compusa would have had to
order.
plugged it in and the cat light started flashing immediately.
