[1000mp] Using CAT software between FT1000MP and Logger software

Peter,

I have no problem getting Logger to communicate with the FT1000MP, make sure
you have selected the correct COM port, speed of the port etc.

Here is how I have it set, it is: ""From the "CONFIG" pull down menu in
Logger""" Top Window

Radio Selection Window -

Radio = YAESU
Model = FT1000MP

Radio Port Configuration Window:

Baud = 4800
Com Port = Use the one you have selected for your cable connection, I used
COM#1
Flow Control = None
Parity = None
Data Bits = 8
Echo = Off
Stop Bits = 2

Also make sure that the button just below the radio type reads "Close Radio
" and not "Open Radio", if it reads Open Radio hit the button. In the lower
section of the main Logger screen you should see Radio (ComX) in blue which
indicates that the radio port is now open. This appears right next to the
Date and time small window at the bottom of the screen.

If you are using a standard cable and "NOT" a NULL modem cable you should
start to see the CAT light on the FT1000MP display flicker. This is after
restarting LOGGER. There is another setting to select the rate at which the
CAT port is scanned.

Under the main Log Book window where you enter the call sign for logging is
a "Config" button", open it and make sure on the lower left of that screen
you have checked the, "Auto Radio Polling" and the desired rate. I have
mine set to mid. Also check the logging and display of frequency button
which is the second sub-window from the top left in the configuration
window.

Now if that doesn't work you can actual monitor the data leaving or going to
the selected COM port by using the Radio button at the top of Logger, it
shows if data is leaving the Logger program. It is binary data and you can
actual determine what commands are being sent to the FT1000MP by comparing
the values to those in your manual. It also displays what is returning.

If for some reason the CAT light on the radio is not flickering and you have
the right cable it is possible that the Serial card in your PC is not
correct. On a old motherboard that I had the onboard 232 ports would not
communicate with the FT1000MP or to a PK-232MBX TU but an old plug in serial
card would communicate correctly. It drove me nuts before I tried a deferent
serial card, even a PC technician were I bought the MB could not determine
the problem since it worked with modems etc.

One major comment, if you are going to use Logger and Zakanaka together make
sure Zakanaka is not set to run alone. Also there is a small glitch in the
Logger program that with an original version of the FT1000MP software,
logger does not correctly recognize Packet LSB mode. I set the radio to
LSB, then start Logger and then hit Packet "PKT" and the frequency display
in both Logger and Zakanaka is correct. I wrote to Bob several times with
the correct code sequence that needed to changed in the basic Logger program
but I do not think that he ever got the chance to make the correction. Just
a little inconvenience for a great program.

Hope I have helped. Should you continue to have problems or my suggestions
do not work drop me a line and lets see if I can help.
