Hi Doug,

With all due respect, it's not "idiot-proof stuff". Solid-state RF power
devices are much less forgiving than tubes, and require additional
protection - as do certain tubes with low grid dissipation ratings such as
the 3CX1200A7. The "stuff" does not fail very often, either, I have been
running solid-state amplifiers for 14 years without a single problem.

It all depends on what one is looking for in an amplifier. Most solid-state
amplifiers, and some tube amplifiers such as the Alpha 87A and Acom 1000,
offer automatic bandswitching and tuning. These operational conveniences do
come at a price, though - increased cost and complexity. There is nothing
wrong with a good, simple tube amplifier; the QRO product line is certainly
one of the best.

On my homepage, there are links to articles on solid-state and tube
amplifiers.

Almost correct. Against popular belief, warranties are not free, they are
built into the price of the equipment.

If a piece of electronic gear lasts the first 30 days you are almost
completely out of the woods.

Good luck with those Quadras, I prefer the QRO Amplifier line without all
the
idiot proof stuff that fails and causes the amplifier to quit working.
