Does the monitor also sound bad on CW? My Mark 5's monitor started
sounding rough on 15m CWa few months after I bought it. Went back to Yaesu
for this and some other issues under warranty, and of course they couldn't
find it, because it seems to be related to heating, meaning that it takes
quite a few minutes of transmitting before it gets rough. Since coming
back from them it has continued to deteriorate slowly, to the point where
now it is audible on other bands and on phone as well. Maybe one of these
days it will quit altogether and they'll be able to fix it.

I guess my point is that it may be a defective component rather than a
design problem.
