[1000mp] Monitor Receiver

I have just acquired a 1000MP s/n 5.....     The  problem is that the
sound when the Monitor is turned on is real bad.  I can hear my voice
but it is really distorted.

   * Turning the volume up or down does not help the situation.
   * Adjusting the RF power level does not help.
   * Turning the process off/on does not change anything. I have used
     the stock mic as well as a Heil but the outcome is still distorted.
   * The output RF signal on the air is perfect.

I tried the same mics on my other MP s/n 9.... and everything worked
real good.

Was there a design fault in the early models?  I have looked for the
monitor receiver in the schematics but have not found it yet.

Anyone have any suggestions?
