I agree with Lou. I use the RIT-control almost every QSO on the Mark V,
without any problems.

pileup.  I've had my MkV nearly2 years and, so far, haven't had a problem
with the RIT/XIT control but problems with the control keep coming up on
this list.  I read somewhere that it is possible to disassemble the control,
clean it out, and get it working again.  I'd probably have a replacement on
hand before trying this myself.
