Hi Gang
I know everybody is sick of this topic....so am I. To put the issue to
rest in my own mind I devised an experiment of sorts.....and I question
the results. Here's what I did:
I hooked up a dummy load to my Mark5 Field.
I wrapped a 40 meter dipole around the room (on the outside)
and hooked it up to the Icom 706 MK II G that is in my vehicle.
I engaged the 250 hz narrow filter in the 706 and searched around
the TX frequency while my wife keyed the Mark5 Field into the
dummy load at 100 watts. Here's the results:
MK5 Field set to: Clicks low Clicks high
3.600 Mhz 3.598 3.6028
7.100 7.0987 7.1025
14.100 14.093 !! 14.111 !!
21.100 21.085 !! 21.117 !!
28.100 28.086 !! 28.116 !!
The signal strength (On frequency) was at least S9 and on some bands
it pegged the meter in the IC-706.
I have a very hard time believing any radio could be this bad and I think
I MUST have goofed up somehow. What do the experts think ????
