[1000mp] Packet and RTTY jacks

Hi:
I have a Mark V field and I wanted to use it on PSK/RTTY with the normal
sound cards programs and be able to use my narrow filters on those modes. It
seemed like the way to do this was to hook up to the Packet jack with audio
in/out and PTT. Then run USB and use the normal PSK/RTTY sound card
software. It does not work because it seems the TX audio input is not
active in that jack except when the PKT button is pushed. And of course none
of the user modes that can be set with menu 8-6 is a USB mode. The easy set
mode seems to think that your going to tune in a PSK signal by tuning the
radio instead of pointing and clicking on a waterfall display or what ever
your software uses. The answer I found is to use the user set menu to fake
the radio into thinking its on USB.
The setting I used are:
Mode- PAC-lo (packet lower sideband)
DSP-ofst- 0.000 (display offset, puts the display to show the suppressed
carrier frequency)
R-Pll- 1.450
R-car- 453.550
t-Pll- 1.500
t-car- 453.500
rtty-sft- 0.000
These are the setting that are used in a normal USB mode selected by the USB
button.
So with the user-set menu setup, to use PSK/RTTY with my sound card
software, I tune would tune my rig to 14.070MHz and push the PKT button and
hold it until the LED flashes, signifying I'm in the USER-SET mode. The LSB
LED is lit but I'm really in USB which you can verify by tuning in a station
on USB and pushing and holding the PKT button until it flashes and you will
be able to copy just fine.
In this mode I also have the use of all my narrow filters, the speech
processor is shut off for me so I don't need to remember to do it and the TX
audio is enabled and I'm as happy as a clam.
I use Digapan and TrueTTY and they work just fine. I worked TZ6RD in Mali on
RTTY with this setup on split today so it works just fine for my way of
operating. My interface is a home brew thing with transformer isolation and
adjustable pads to set levels. I set my mic. gain to the best spot for
normal SSB operation and then in the PKT mode adjust the levels from the
computer for proper operation on the digital modes without changing the mic.
gain. This make changing from SSB to digital a almost one button operation.
