In my Mark 5, there is a very different sound to the monitor and the
sidetone that is heard when the monitor is switched off. In fact, my
monitor circuit has a defect that causes rough CW sidetone and raspy SSB
audio after a few minutes of transmitting. With monitor off the sidetone
is pure. For this reason, I believe they are different systems.
