A lot of people have told you "it doesn't work" and no one seems to
have offered suggestions on making it work correctly, so here goes:
First thing to remember: memories 1 and 2 are only 20 characters in
length. If you try to write a message of more than 20 characters, you
_are_ going to get into the next memory. Of that pair, I only use
memory 1, and I only use _it_ when I need an automatically updated
serial number message.
I've found that trying to put even short messages in both memories 1
and 2 results in messages overwritten. Using one or the other of
them by itself seems to work OK.
Memories #5 through #8 are all 50 characters in length, and so are
more suitable for the longer messages. When I'm using the built-in
keyer, I normally only use memories 5 through 8, and I have no
problem with the keyer operation.
If I'm in a contest that requires a serial number, then and only then
do I use memory number 1.
The suggestion to use Iambic 2 for keyer programming is a good one; I
normally switch to Iambic 2 to program my messages and then back to
Iambic 1 for normal operation.
I have had no problems using the FH-1 and the built-in keyer, keeping
the above information in mind. I think that you should be able to
have the same successful experience.
Hope this helps.
