---Use the Inrad 400 Hz in the 8 MHz IF along with the stock 500 Hz
filter (in the main receiver)
If you are somewhat serious about CW, a pair of Inrad 250 Hz filters
will be a big help when conditions are rough.
I use an Inrad 400 Hz in the second receiver - some like the wider
filter in that position.

---Both. However, if cost is an important factor: first add 400 Hz to
the 8 MHz IF; then 400 Hz to the second receiver; then, in the main
receiver, add 250 Hz in the 8 MHz IF; and lastly a 250 Hz in the low IF.
Additionally, I find that a pair of Inrad 1.8 kHz in the main receiver
works wonders when things get rough on SSB.

---Others will give you chapter and verse. The second receiver is a
large asset. Most of the time, I use the second receiver to set the
transmit frequency and to allow me to listen on the transmit frequency.
When a DX station is calling by numbers, I can listen to him while
searching for something else. You will find that having a second
receiver is one of the best features.
