Hi Bill,
There is a lot of material on my Quadra page:
http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/quadra/quadra.html
You can also download a set of Quadra documents from that page.
I drive my Quadra with an IC-756Pro II; I have the "band data 2" cable
connected to the ACC1 socket on the Pro II. To bandswitch or tune, I set the
frequency on the exciter, select RTTY (a step you do not need, I believe,
with an MP as exciter), and press [F SET] or {TUNE] as the case may be. The
Quadra counts the excitation frequency and sets the band-selection relays.
The auto-bandswitch operation takes about 50 ~ 100 mS. When tuning, the
tuner motors rotate until the correct tuning point (minimum reflected power
at the tuner input + 180 phase shift across tuner) is met. The Quadra
stores the tuning point in memory. A tuning cycle lasts a few seconds.
The next time you auto-bandswitch to a frequency near that tuning point, the
tuner will be set to that point. The tuner does not dynamically track QSY
(as does the Icom PW-1).
You will need the band data cables 1 and 2 with an FT-1000MP exciter. For
key-down RTTY operation, de-rating to 500W is recommended, with a maximum
transmit time of 1 hour at 100% duty cycle. For search & pounce etc., you
should be able to get away with full output (1 kW) at 100% duty cycle for 10
min.
I bought the Quadra in November 1998, and would not trade it for any
vacuum-tube amplifier.
