In general, I find that DSP works much better on on simple signals such as
CW and heterodynes, than on SSB.

I also have a Timewave DSP599zx which I use with a Drake R-4C - it works
wonders on CW.  My uneducated guess, is that the processors need to get a
lot faster in order to have sampling rates high enough to avoid that watery
DSP sound.  The reason I bought the Mark V instead of the Pro, is that the
Mark V, under all the gimmicks, is still a fine analog radio.  I know at
some point DSP will truly take over, but not yet.  I am curious though about
how the new TenTec Orion with its dual 32 bit processors will fair.  Tom
