[1000mp] Filters: Inrad 400 or Collins 500 ??

Hello Chuck,

First of all I wish you a lot of pleasure with your MK V Field!

Always an interesting question about the filterchoice. Not only interesting,
but very important too because it has to do with selectivity and with the
audio quality. And a few more.

My opinion is that the Yaesu 500 Hz Collins filter is a good choice for the
second receiver. The somewhat wider skirts may be an advantage for the use
of the sub receiver.

For the main receiver my choice would be:
Inrad
2800
2100
1000
400

For more selectivity I use the EDSP 240, 120 and 60!

These steps are more logical to me then 2800 - 2100 - 400 - 250. There is a
big gap between 2100 and 400 and it is a small step between 400 and 250.

Now about the 70 MHz IF modification.

I used the IF modification for about 9 months in the Mark V, which I have
for 16 months now.
Despite the usage of the IPO, some attenuation and selection '7' in the menu
9-1, I noticed some distortion with really strong signals. This is the
reason why I de-installed the mod again. Nevertheless I advise you to try
the IF mod for yourself! Just try it for a couple of months and make your
own opinion. In my point of view it is always worth while trying. I cannot
give exact figures on your Mk V Field, which is definitely different from my
Mk V.

Good luck, all the best and 73!
Hans Remeeus.
