Let me start off by saying I am a big time Yaesu fan! I have always =
owned at least 4 or 5 pieces of Yaesu equipment at any given time and I =
think they make great products.=20
Ok. I've waited and thought about this for a very long time. I took =
delivery of my Mark V about one year ago and found the receiver to be =
less sensitive than my TS-850. I professionally installed the INRAD =
front end mod and it made a world of a difference. The radio was on par, =
if not slightly better, at times, (sensitivity) than the TS-850, but not =
by much. Although there is a noticeable increase in sensitivity, it =
still seems the radio does not pull signals out of the noise all too =
well. Some signals are heard better on my old FT-101E! =20
After fooling around with all the front panel buttons, as well as all of =
the menu items (such as DSP settings and the infamous 8-9 and 9-0 menus) =
I have concluded the DSP is marginal at best at reducing noise. Over the =
past year I have encountered few occasions where the DSP made a =
noticeable difference... 99% of the time is did nothing other than color =
the noise. Of the time the DSP made a difference it was in CW, but =
there were a few in SSB.
I have adjusted every menu item as well as used a number of features =
simultaneously. You name it, I most likely did it.
My radio is configured with the INRAD mod and the optional 2.0 Khz - =
8.2M SSB IF filter
Perhaps there are some settings I don't have quite right. Help.... as I =
am contemplating going to another manufacture (TS-950SDX).
Thanks for your time.
Joe
