When EDSP CW demod (7-7) is enabled there is effectively an audio filter in with a sharp cutoff at 1500 Hz in line.
With a wide IF filter selected, sigs that get through the IF filter but are above the 1500 Hz cutoff will not be heard
but will pump the AGC. With CW demod switched off, those higher sigs still cause pumping but now you hear them and the
pumping sounds normal.
With two INRAD 1.8KHz filters, I find that rotating the Width control to about 3:00 or 4:00 o'clock (in CW USB mode)
makes the edge of the IF filter coincide with the edge of the DSP filter and eliminates the pumping. This is very easy
to see and verify using an audio spectrum analyzer or audio spectrum analyzer software (like Spectrogram) with the
soundcard in your computer.
I find that CW demod eliminates the majority of the hiss and makes a huge improvement in the sound of the rig in CW
mode. This is probably why the rig is shipped with it enabled.
