Padding around ur radios inside shipping cases:
The white styrofoam like the stuff used in the original mfg boxes is the
best stuff for padding ur radios, second is the black open cel foam which,
yet, crushes to nearly nothing under impact. The egg crate design black
foam is only a little better.
An inch of the white stuff is ok for everything but the front panel, where u
need real isolation like the form-fitted foam pieces that came in the
original mfg box.
Do not depend on cloth nor clothing... my sad experience with terry towels,
even, did not protect my TS-870 front panel .... main tuning knob was jammed
back and the pot was broken and had to be replaced... fortunately that was
on the return trip home!
I mistakenly identified closed cel foam as falling apart in 20 years and
turning into granuals... I meant to refer to the black open cel stuff that
turns granular and sticky at the end of its life.
Good traveling, de K4VUD
