There are many Pelican brand cases available in many sizes and shapes and
latch types... and colors.
Your best sources for them are
Dive shops
camera shops
Video camera suppliers.
Be ready to pay right thru the nose.
Interior padding can be configured by you or by Pelican. Note that the
closed cel foam is very good but has a life of about 20 years after which it
tends to turn into small beads that are sticky and a royal pain to get off
of anything.
This is simply the best case for real rugged duty around. Some models come
with a burping valve that allows u to burp the case (like Tupperware) and
then close the valve for a water tight seal (I'd still test my own case in
the bath tub anyway.) Be mindful of the change in air pressure in the hole
of an airplane at high altitudes if you tightly seal the case. Many
configurations provide two holes on the two parts of the clamshell for hasp
locks. The plastic they are made of can be cut with a good knife, defeating
the final security of the hasp locks. Most of the cases are deeper in one
half of the clamshell than the other... very handy. The handle is integral
to the case and the opening for your hand is big enuf to take a ham fist or
a length of chain to chain it to heavy furniture during your trips out of
your hotel room. (This gives u an idea of the kind of places I go!)
Anvil and that type of case made of painted plywood and metal is heavier and
more likely to damage both itself and its contents. Locking of these,
however, is a bit more secure.
I travel internationally by air, boat, bus etc. with cameras, video gear,
computers, ham radios, and occasionally brass Buddha figures. Pelican
handles them all vy well. de K4VUD
