I am one who is also completely satisfied with the Mark V; but I have not
had any problems with it and have not had to send it back for service. If
I had a problem however, I would pretty upset too if I had to wait 6 weeks
to get it fixed.
I did have a FT-1000 prior to the Mark V; and had to send it back for
service to have the finals replace because of a failure of the SWR
protection circuit.
After obtaining the Mark V, I sold the 1000 on EBay. Unfortunately, the
gentleman who purchased it found the transmitter inop. He sent it to a
service center in GA I believe. I talked with the serviceman and he
informed me the repairs done by the factory were marginal at best and
probably contributed to the second failure of the radio. He also told me
that mine was not the first radio he had repaired that had less than
satisfactory service performed by Yaesu.
I have heard nothing but praise about Ten Tec service; maybe Yaesu should
consult them. If you are going to sell an "Lexus", you damn well better be
two notches above the competition in customer service!
Let's hope the new Ten Tec radio is the new "Lexus" for DXer's, and can
give Yaseu a run for their money. I am anxious to see the radio at
Dayton; and if it performs as well as it sounds, I will one of the first in
line to purchase one and sell the Mark V while it still is working
flawlessly.
