Well, maybe there is still time to get you back Ken.
Most dealers will do an exchange on a rig that fails that soon so you dont
have to deal with repair time. Looks like you did do an exchange, but not
for the same radio..... yes that is sad.
The Icom 746Pro is frankly in my opinion, a step backwards compared to what
unfortunately failed on you. Front end performance on that Icom rig is no
where as good as rigs with true discrete narrower filters in the front, and
I would miss the flexible dual fulltime sub receiver in the Yaesu. Many have
complained about the performance of the Band Scope due to time delays and
other issues on the 746Pro.
Every rig has its pluses and minuses for sure, and we have to balance what
is best for each of us on our own. Even the better performing IC-756Pro II
has the same limitations with the lack of narrow discrete filters in early
I.F. stages and that results in poorer performing front end overload issues.
Maybe you can do an exchange again and come back to the FT-1000MP/MkV/Field
line? I am not anti Icom. I still have my bought new Icom IC-720 hooked up
to a Kenwood SM-220 Panadapter that I love, and various Icom Ht's.
