I realize the capacitor mod is in the CW audio section and I never
implied that it is in the IF. All I said was that it very significantly
reduces the IF hiss heard on CW with the EDSP turned off.
The mod is so easy to do that I can see no reason why not to do it.
Being a CW operator, I like to be able to switch the CW audio DSP filter
in and out depending on receive condx, and I don't like hearing the
annoying IF hiss when the EDSP is off. Now that I have the INRAD 125 Hz
xtal filter installed (a GREAT filter!), I use the EDSP 60 HZ audio
filter less often, but I still switch the 60 Hz filter in for those
extremely weak CW signals on 160m.
The IF hiss in the audio was the only disappointing thing about the MP
when I first bought the radio. INRAD's front end mod, along with the
capacitor mod, reduced the hiss to where I no longer notice it and I'm
very pleased with the radio now.
