Hi Paul,
i found it very helpful in SSB when i had the
headphones on and want to copy a very weak signal.
NR to Level A and contour in the middle position.
It realy improves the signal but only with the headphones on.
When i listen to the built in speaker i notice the same effect you found
out.
So try it with the headphones on.
