I don't use rig control from the contest software myself (one less entry
point for RF to cause trouble in the rig or computer), but I know a LOT
of people do. At the end of the day, this is the flagship radio for
Yaesu and it shouldn't need a work-around like this, especially when the
older version didn't.
The flexible filtering options were one of the big selling points in the
original MP and then they done away with that in their next iteration of
the radio. I fail to see the logic!! As this radio is primarily aimed
at contesters and DXers, maybe it's time Yaesu/Vertex started talking to
said audience to see what they like and dislike about current radios
before they change them. I honestly don't believe that a survey of
contesters and DXers would have told them to remove this feature.
About the only thing that I would have changed on the MP is the display.
Something more like that on the FT920 would have been better, though
after 6.5 years I've gotten used to the MP display.....
