So, Earl, are you saying the 2-xtal filter is at the tail end of the IF 
chain, right before the prod. detector?  If so, then it is the only ham rig 
I have ever heard of that did this.  Wes Hayward described this technique in 
his book, as a means of eliminating wideband noise that is generated in the 
IF chain.  Outstanding!
