[1000mp] FT-1000MP Mk5 Field Problem

Regarding MP QSK...

I use QSK 100% with my MP. But it's the only QSK rig I've ever used,
so maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. I find it to be fine
under most Rx conditions, but when I crank in the twin-250 Inrads,
it's too clicky. It's not unusable, just annoying and distracting.

Now I should clarify that I don't use monitor mode--I just listen to
the sidetone. I think it's worse when you try to listen to the
monitor mode.

Another annoying thing about the MP is the fact that if you choose NOT
to listen to monitor mode, the sidetone volume control is a
screwdriver adjust on the back panel. What were they thinking?! I
wish I could swap my front panel SubRX Wquelch for the sidetone volume
control. I don't think my fingerprints are on the SubRx Squelch knob!
 :-)

Quite some time ago I predicted, obviously incorrectly, that the next
Inrad mod for the MP would be the "Enhanced QSK Mod." Stil think it's
a a good idea. It would be a good complement to the key click mod
they now offer. Is there some fundamental reason that the MP's QSK
performance can't be as good as the Kenwoods, Ten-Tecs, or others that
people praise?

Anybody have any pull with the fine folks at Inrad? (Don't think
there's much chance of getting it from Yaesu/Vertex.)

73,
Tom / W7GT
