Yes Class A operation will help but more important is to reduce the drive
level ( mic gain AND rf-pwr to levels that produce ZERO ALC. Not even a
flicker. If you have a watt meter when you have everything adjusrted right
you will only produce some where around 15 to 20 watts. Ask the station to
give you a reading of your IMD it should be -20 or lower and he should see
no sidebands on your signal, just a nice pair of railroad tracks. (one set
please).
Have fun PSK31 is a fun mode and requires only qrp levels of power BTW the
ft817 is great on PSK !!
