Thanks for the interesting email exchanges Hans. With how popular it is to
use the FT-1000Xx hf rigs for digital modes due to their excellent front end
over load characteristics, wonderful filter options, and very flexible menu
selections, it is no wonder that there are questions about what is what and
how to do it.... hi hi

Other digital mode reflectors are wrestling with the wide digital modes that
are available to us now, and there impact on amateur radio allocations. I am
a member of a group that has permission from the Fcc to evaluate Ale digital
modes in our ham bands and it is a voice mode wide digital operation. Ale

Automatic Link Establishment is a popular military application that has room
for constructive usage in our amateur radio systems.

There is even a separate email reflector discussing the amateur radio
allocations, and how to work with the Fcc in making room for all the current
known modes, and various bandwidth circumstances. DigiMode HF Band Plans:

Shades of AM and SSB crisis of old ..... hi hi

Tip for Digital Modes that change Frequencies and Bands in our
FT-1000MP/MkV/Field rigs.

Even though it is nice for software to move our ham rigs all over the bands
on its own and establish connections and move data, it is real rough on
relays in our equipment over long time periods. With this in mind, I
configure my digital software to change frequencies and bands within the
parameters of the relay switching points (generally the low pass filter
board). By choosing which range I wish to run, depending on time of day and
propagation conditions. This way I avoid all the relay operation and
maintain the life of them to boot.
