When I worked in an electronic component testing lab we life tested 
components for 1000 hrs.  The infant mortality rate was by far the greatest 
in the 1st 250 hrs.

I turn a new radio on and leave it on for at least 10 days with an 
occasional power on/off cycle to find early component life failures.
