I'm running a 9-9 cable I made up last night but I only hooked in pins 
2, 3 and 5.

I also tried another with all pins wired 1;1 2:2 etc and that also 
didn't work.

As he mentioned Targus and that is what I am using, that could well be 
the problem :-((
