Hi Duncan
You only need the three connections and it is a straight through cablefor 9
way D type connectors.
You may find you have to short out a couple of pins on the PC end of the
cable depending on the age/make of the PC
Try shorting together RTS and CTS (7+8) and then short out DSR and DTR
(6+4). Making serial ports work has never been an exact science so you may
find that either of the options may work or you will need both.
Let me know if this does not work as I have a notes somewhere for different
makes of PCs
