[1000mp] pesky DIN plugs...

Dear Group:
No messages for a day and a half, so I do not know if there is a
problem.....
The "DP8/262" plugs from therfc.com are the correct plugs for the
Band Data socket. I made a connecting cable between FT1000MP MkV and
Alpha99 using one of the plugs and the keying circuit (without neading
to use the relay in the radio) works fine. I have not tested the
lock-out part.
The holes on the wire side of the DP8/262 plugs are quite shallow
and do not quite take a #20 stranded wire. I wired two pieces of small
coax to the plug by inserting a #20 stranded wire (all that I could put
my hand on) into the grounding pin (with one strand outside) and
soldering same. Then the shields of the two pieces of small coax were
soldered to the extending #20 wire. The center conductors were inserted
into the proper pins and soldered.
Remember that the pin numbers marked on the plug do not correspond
to Y's pin numbers. I inserted the bare plug into the radio to see that
it fit and used a meter to confirm which pin was which. Use the pin
diagram in the Y manual (as seen from the wire, back, side of the plug).
On a separate note: The Alpha99 manual is far too sparse to be of
much help. Had to go to the on-line manual from their LZ competitors.
When their competitor makes a two tube, manual amp, Alpha will be
history. The transformer "talks" a lot! Big thumps go along with
keying. Lots of fan noise. Hard to achieve 1.5 kW with reasonable
current.
